Takahea Lodge
The Takahea Lodge is the largest of our buildings, featuring 23 ensuite rooms that can accommodate up to 70 guests. From the lodge, you can enjoy stunning views of the Murchison Mountains, the historic site where Geoffrey Orbell rediscovered the Takahe in 1948, long after it was thought to be extinct.
The lodge offers a spacious lounge and dining area with an inviting open fire, as well as a small library and games area for relaxation. Guests have access to a fully equipped commercial kitchen, complete with an 800L chest freezer, a walk-in chiller, a commercial dishwasher, and ample bench space for food preparation and serving. A large BBQ with gas supplied is also available for use.
For convenience and comfort, the lodge provides all necessary cleaning products, a well-stocked First Aid room, and essential bedding, including bathmats, bottom sheets, and pillows with cases. It is fully wheelchair accessible, with dedicated rooms and bathrooms designed to accommodate guests with mobility needs. Additional amenities include free WiFi, access to washing machines, and a table tennis table for group entertainment. Whether you're here for a retreat, school trip, or corporate getaway, the Takahea Lodge offers a comfortable and well-equipped space to suit your needs.
General Information
Arrival & Departure
Check-in is available from 2:00 pm onwards, and guests must depart no later than 10:00 am. Any variations to these times are at the discretion of the Operations Manager.
Pets
As the lodge is located within a National Park, no pets are allowed on-site. However, the Operations Manager has a permit for his dogs, provided guests comply with the established rules.
Cleaning
We supply all necessary cleaning products, including tea towels, rubbish bags, and toilet paper. Groups are responsible for leaving the facility clean and tidy. Cleaning instructions are displayed throughout the lodge, and all cleaning tasks must be completed before departure. Any additional cleaning required to restore the facility to its high standards will be charged at $100 per hour.
Damages
Groups must report any breakages or damages. Any damage or broken items will be charged to the group, and repairs will be arranged by the Operations Manager using our preferred contractors. While we understand that accidents happen, we rely on honesty to ensure that any issues are resolved promptly.
Deposit
A 20% deposit of the total hire charge is required upon booking and is non-refundable in the event of cancellation. The remaining balance must be paid on or before the date of hire. If a cancellation occurs within 7–14 days of arrival, 75% of the total hire charge will be due. Cancellations made less than 7 days before arrival will require full payment of the total hire charge.
What You Need to Bring
We provide bottom sheets, pillows, pillowcases, and bath mats; however, guests must bring their own additional bedding and towels. The nearest shops are in Te Anau, so we recommend stocking up before arrival, as there is no on-site store. If catering services are required, we can recommend local caterers and food providers.
